Vaishali Bhagwat

Vaishali is a practicing lawyer with an experience over 20 years and heading a 50 year old law firm in Pune. As a Computer science and a law graduate she has been able to combine the knowledge from the domain of computer science and law effortlessly. Vaishali specializes in general commercial matters with a special emphasis IT, information security and Privacy, E-commerce Law and Cyber Crimes. Her work also focuses on violence against women as she deals with cases of Domestic Violence, matrimonial disputes and anti sexual harassment laws.
Vaishali is a Chevening Scholar and was the first lawyer to be selected to participate in a 12 week residential program at Cranfield University, Defense Academy Campus, UK on “International Collaboration on Cyber Policy” and Cyber Defense. The program was aimed at outstanding mid-career professionals in the field of information security and cyber law and having the potential to influence policy decisions in the two countries. The program is the prestigious Chevening Program by The Foreign Commonwealth Office of the British Government.
She was also chosen amongst the top 20 professionals from India and UK, in a program chaired by PM Manmohan Singh and PM David Cameron named Dishaa 3, on innovation and leadership and awarded a certificate from UK Prime minister David Cameron.
Vaishali is a popular speaker and is invited by various Industry Forums, conferences and Academic Institutions such as CII, MCCIA, KPMG, E&Y, Police Training Academy, and Judges Training Academy etc.
Vaishali has been interviewed several times on DD, various news channels and All India Radio.
She has also worked closely with the National Crime Agency (UK) on “keeping children safe online” and made a presentation on the subject at Seoul at a Rotary Convention where representatives from over 100 countries attended.
Her law firm has won the prestigious DCSI award in 2016 for spreading cyber security awareness amongst the masses. Vaishali is also the recipient of Vocational Excellence award and the women of substance award by Rotary.
Vaishali is an Independent Director at Renishaw India, Member of the Board of Trustees at the Lila Poonawala Foundation and a member of the Board of Studies at Symbiosis Centre for Distance Learning and the author of the course on Cyber Laws. She has co-authored a book “Cyber Crimes – Technology Menace of the 21st Century” by Vishwakarma Publications in which she discusses 10 cyber crime cases handled by her. The book is translated in Marathi and Hindi.
