Radhika Meganathan, who writes mythology under the pen name ‘Smara’, is award-winning children’s / young-adult writer based in Chennai. She is the author of Village Fair (Tulika), the Golden Mythology picture book series (Seasons Publishing) and has published several short stories with Hachette and Chandamama.
A graduate in architecture, Radhika’s foray into children’s writing started when she won the USA-based Highlights magazine’s International Writers’ Fellowship (2004). She was one of the judges at Disney’s Pitchkiaw, a national talent search in Mumbai (2011) and was the key note speaker at the annual literature symposium at Lady Doak College, Madurai (2015). The Gurukul Chronicles, her first novel-length work based on Mahabaratha, is one of the winners of the manuscript contest at Pune International Literary Festival 2016.
Radhika, who has studied creative writing in the UK, is an ardent advocate of the workshop model for writers and frequently conducts writing programs and literary retreats in Chennai and abroad.
