Dr. Bharat Bhushan completed his M.Sc & Ph.D in Field Ornithology from the Bombay Natural History Society at the University of Mumbai. He is currently Professor for Environmental Planning and Dean (Academics) at the Yashwantrao Chavan Academy for Development Administration (YASHADA) in Pune. His blogs on aspects of mythology, ancient Indian culture and natural sciences have been extremely popular and followed by many readers for several years. His personality reflects the gamut of traits possessed by a researcher. A keen student about ancient knowledge systems and sciences of the Indian Subcontinent, he continually explores the convergence of science with ancient spiritual systems, myths, folklore and renditions about the people and traditions of South Asia. While his imaginative genius envisages extraordinary tales, they emerge like the water in a pristine spring onto paper with ease, grace and simplicity. A believer of the uniqueness of every person, Bharat Bhushan finds the protagonists for his stories across a wide landscape. As a lifelong eclectic and serendipitous vagrant in knowledge systems amongst people, places and deep within the mind, he has traveled extensively from Kataragama in Sri Lanka, Rameswaram in South India, Nageshwar and Somnath in the West, Namdapha and Arunachal in the East and the upper slopes of Kedarnath and Yamunotri in the snow-capped mountains of the Himalayas in his quest to converse with Shiva. His work marks him out as a seeker in the Dnyanamarga mould as mentioned in the Nadistotra, ancient texts that are based entirely on science.
His recent books – from Vishwakarma Publications – have been extremely diverse. Katha Panduranga, in Marathi, journeys within the minds of devotees and explores the sharp edge of faith in the divine. Birds of Ramayana is a collection of essays drawn from the great epic and presents the contribution of Kakabhushundi, Sampati, Krauncha, Jatayu and Garuda to the Ramayana. The forthcoming title, Kailash Trail: Secrets of the Ancients, is a fictional novel set around the sacred mountain and brings together the various mythological aspects from this very unknown and secretive region within a mystery narrative.
